The biggest news I have is that I have resumed work on Operator. In particular, I’m fixing bugs, adding a few usability enhancements and adding support for new microformat stuff like the value class/pattern for dates. I’m also considering completely removing the “Actions” toolbar and switching to interacting only with the data. I’m definitely looking for feedback on that one.

Wer Ideen zu neuen Features oder Funktionen hat, kann diese gerne auf Michaels Weblog loswerden.
Mein Wunsch: Microdata support 🙂

(Ich hoffe dass die Angekündigten value-class-pattern Änderungen eventuell auch irgendwann in die native Microformats Firefox API aufgenommen werden.)

Leider gab es bisher keinen einheitlichen „Microformats-Acid-Tests“ sondern nur vereinzelte (projektspezifische) Seiten um einige Spezialfälle zu testen.

Glenn Jones, einer der Macher von ufXtract hat jetzt eine sehr schöne Microformats-Testsuite erstellt, die parser-unabhängig funktionieren soll um eventuelle Interpretationsfehler erkennen und vergleichen zu können.

The Testrunner

Um die Tests so einfach wie möglich zu gestalten, hat Glenn einen einen JavaScript-Testrunner entwickelt (siehe Screenshot). Testen kann man den Runner unter z.B. http://ufxtract.com/testsuite/hcard/1.0/hcard1.htm in dem man einfach Alt + X drückt (CTRL + ALT + X auf dem Mac).

Hier sei nochmal erwähnt warum es so wichtig ist, dass jeder Parser das gleiche (micro)JSON-Format nutzt:

Nur bei einer gleichen JSON-Struktur kann der Output sinnvoll verglichen werden. Eine erste Version der jCard (danke nochmal an Gordon Oheim für sein Engagement) findet man im Microformats-Wiki.

Testsuite-API

Wer die Testsuite für seinen eigenen Parser einsetzen will, sollte sich mal die Testsuite-API zu Gemüte führen.

Um User-Skripte vor der Installation nicht erst herunterladen zu müssen, sollen die Skripte von JS auf XML umgestellt werden. Als Basis für das XML-Modell wurde das, von Microsoft spezifizierte, OpenService Format angedacht.

So könnte ein Script z.B. aussehen:

I wrote a small User Script for the Operator Toolbar (Firefox Plugin to handle Microformats), so you can transform the detected microformats using the Optimus transformer. Optimus supports two kinds of transformations (microformats to jSON or to XML) and a basic microformats validation.

The User Script supports the transformations and the validation for the following Microformats: hCard, hCalendar, adr, hReview, hResume, tag, geo, XFN, xFolk, license and hAtom-hFeed.

Und um das ganze noch mehr zu vereinfachen habe ich ein kleines Operator Script geschrieben welches die hCard URL an das Import Script übergibt.

Installationsanleitung:

1. Zuerst müsst ihr das Script (wevent.js) lokal speichern.
2. Dann öffnet ihr die JavaScript Datei über Options->User Scripts->New
3. Mit „OK“ bestätigen
4. Firefox neu starten
5. Fertig 🙂

Wenn Dennis und Sören das ganze auch noch für hCalendar umgesetzt haben gibt’s natürlich auch ein Update für das Script.

Mit dieser Version kann man sich, wie auch bei Tails, ein Icon in der Statusbar anzeigen lassen (als Alternative zur Toolbar) und es werden auch endlich hResumes unterstützt… jetzt fehlt nur noch hAtom und Tails ist überflüssig.
